This Saturday in the Slope: Biddies, Book Sale + Charity Bazaar
In the past month the Itty Biddies have had two packed concerts in New York—and they’ve only played two shows to date. The kids band is an offshoot of The Lascivious Biddies, a trio of women—Saskia Lane, Deidre Rodman and Lee Ann Westover—who play lyrical pop.
Carnegie Hall commissioned them to write and perform kids music for their CarnegieKids program, and the result is a high-energy twist on their original act, with the same strong songwriting. Only now, instead of tongue-in-cheek lyrics like “I wanna be famous/ Who I do will be news on the street” they’re singing “You can make your life what you want it to be/ With your imagination, you’ll always be free.”
Each of their new songs touches upon this theme of imagination, which the Biddies invite kids to pack up and bring along like a suitcase as they head to Africa for a safari, travel back by boat beneath the stars and explore New York City by way of the beloved subway. The whole set is very interactive, with lots of dancing and movement and sing-along action. They like to throw in an 80s cover to please the parents, too.
They’re so new, they haven’t recorded a song yet, so the only way to experience the Itty Biddies is to hear them live. You can catch them at 4 pm today at Zora Arts Center (tickets are $5 per walking human) and next Saturday in Snug Harbor.

While you’re in the Slope today, you can check out the mega book sale at Park Slope Methodist Church, where there’ll be a room for kids filled with children’s books, videos, games and puzzles (and plenty of $1-$2 books for adults), and the MOMs Club of Park Slope Charity Bazaar, a sale of kid’s and baby clothing, toys, household items, baby gear, strollers, and car seats, plus arts and crafts for the kids, face painting, and baked goods. All proceeds benefit Jonah’s Just Begun.
