Out and About
Behind the Music
Next Tuesday, MeanRed Productions — the visionaries who turned Gowanus canalfront property into the outdoor music venue The Yard — begin their second annual, 5-day music residency in Fort Greene’s Paul Robeson Theater, once a church and now an often overlooked cultural center (though MeanRed is trying to change that). Performing Wed., Dec. 19 is the 18-member Bjorkestra and the energetic, space-age Sun Ra Arkestra. On Thurs., Dec. 20, the alt-country band American Babies play with Apollo Sunshine guitarist Sam Cohen in his solo effort, I am A BISON, and on Sat., Dec. 22, neo-soul musician Cody ChesnuTT plays two sets. Check meanredproductions.com for an updated lineup; advance tix available at ticketweb.com.
Tomorrow at 8pm, Bed-Stuy’s Matthew Houck of Phosphorescent plays his atmospheric, melancholic folk at Sound Fix, and then on Saturday at 9pm at the Music Hall of Williamsburg with headliners White Magic.

Tomorrow, Park Slope holds its first annual Snowflake Celebration, in which 100+ local businesses will stay open till 10pm, and treat customers to discounts, free drinks, and demonstrations (like the holiday card making demo at Be Crafty). Worth the Subway Ride on a Sunday
New Amsterdam Public — the proposed, year-round sustainable market to be housed at the old Fulton Fish Market — will be holding a trial-run called Wintermarket on Sunday. Purveyors, butchers, fishmongers, farmers and cheesemakers will all be on hand, selling food grown within a 500-mile radius like meat from a whole black angus steer, sheep’s milk cheese, wild ginger, and fresh baked foccacia. Brooklynites like the chefs of Marlow and Sons and Applewood, and Kelly Geary of Sweet Deliverance will also be in attendance with heavyweights like Mario. 11am to 4pm. newamsterdampublic.org
Art Crawls
On Friday, the charity-party people alldaybuffet have partnered with Williamsburg Every2nd and Artbus to arrange an art crawl that begins in Chelsea, takes in various Williamsburg galleries like Slate, and ends up at Oulu, where $2 from every drink will go toward gifts for students of Fort Greene’s Performing Arts Middle School 133. The free bus leaves the Chelsea Museum at 6 and 8pm, and returns from Monkey Town at 10:30 and 12:30. alldaybuffet.org
Tomorrow from 7-9pm, Ad Hoc Art opens an incredible group show, “Behind the Seen,” with all all-star lineup of street artists like Shepard Fairey, Lady Pink (whose black velvet painting, “Richard Petty,” right, is in the show), Swoon, and soon-to-be household names like Skewville. It’s curated by street artist Michael De Feo (famous for his flower project) but the gallery’s new director, former comic book illustrator Andrew Michael Ford, intends to show more artists whose cut outs, illustrations, stencils and posters typically adorn street signs, sidewalks, and light poles around the world. Thru Jan 20. Wed.-Sun., 1pm-8pm, 49 Bogart St., adhocart.org
