robbers.jpgWhen the Brooklyn band Robbers on High Street released their first album Tree City in 2005, they could not shake the “sounds like Spoon” albatross from their necks. But the comparison — a fortunate one regardless — is wearing off with their second album, Grand Animals, a catchy collection of driving pop bolstered by twangy guitars, bright keyboards, and horns. “We wanted it to be more of an early 70s kind of rock album,” says singer Ben Trokan, who took the album’s title from a veterinary sign on Grand Ave. in Williamsburg, where he lives. If you like their new tracks — like the perfect Sunday soundtrack, bee.jpg“Nasty Numbers,” here — then catch them live at Southpaw on Saturday. We have two free tickets to the first person who can tell us where in Brooklyn this photo is. (Just hit reply with the answer.) 8pm doors, Southpaw, 125 Fifth Ave. near Sterling Pl., spsounds.com.
