Sex in Parent City

If there was ever a market ready to be coaxed back into bed, it’s the stroller set, as “Smartmom” Louise Crawford hilariously pointed out in the Brooklyn Paper.

So it’s with great anticipation that Babeland, the enlightened sex shop empire that’s celebrating its 15th anniversary, opens its doors tomorrow in Park Slope, home of co-founder Claire Cavanah (right) for the past 10 years. owners.jpg

“This business is so close to my heart, I really wanted to bring our mission to my own neighborhood,” says Cavanah, who, frustrated by creepy adult stores that didn’t cater to women, opened the first shop in Seattle — then called Toys in Babeland — with her business partner Rachel Venning (left).

The neighborhoody events planned for the Brooklyn store set this branch apart from its counterparts. Cavanah, a Park Slope mom herself, is launching a series called Sexy Moms, starting June 24 with Esther Blum, a nutritionist who knows all the sex drive-boosting foods — along with date nights, wine and chocolate tastings, crafting sessions, even Babeland Brunches with free workshops like “G-Spot 101.”

babesign.jpgLike every Babeland, the selection is heavy on the innovative and female-friendly. Eco is of course the latest buzzword in vibrators — the popular, surreal-looking Delight, for instance, is rechargeable and made of non-toxic silicone. And the newest toys just keep getting more high tech and clever. The We Vibe manages to pleasure both partners during sex, and the SaSi memorizes exactly what you like, through telling buttons like “Don’t Stop!

Not everything has changed, however. The famous Rabbit, which has touched so many women over the years (including Carrie and the gang), remains a perennial bestseller.

Babeland Brooklyn, 718-638-3820, 462 Bergen Street, between Flatbush and 5th Avenue. Opens tomorrow, Wednesday June 4. Noon-8 pm Mon.-Sat., noon-6 pm Sun. Events at babeland.com/events.
