Tom Mylan, in-house butcher at Diner, Marlow & Sons, and the two Bonitas, carved up half of a 220-lb. Berkshire pig at The Brooklyn Kitchen last night before a dozen students, then gave cooking tips for the various parts: “Braise the shoulder meat, cure the belly, cook the loin hot and fast, and smoke the ribs,” he said, adding — with a lowered voice — that he preferred his own pork “rare.” To accommodate high demand, The Kitchen will be offering the pig butchering class again on April 8th and 15th; participants get to take home 6-8 lbs. of fresh meat. thebrooklynkitchen.com>>

Fix Tape Exchange, Sound Fix’s monthly mix tape swap party, is this Sunday at 8 pm. The theme is “Cities,” so show up with your own urban-referencing tape or CD (which is what most people bring), and leave with someone else’s. Andrew W. K.’s “I Love NYC” or Cat Power’s “New York” would make an excellent first track… but that’s just a suggestion. To hear Luc Sante read from his new books of essays, Kill All Your Darlings, arrive at 6. soundfixrecords.com>>

Japanese pop artist Takashi Murakami — as famous for his Vuitton bags as his technicolor paintings — is getting his biggest retrospective to date at the Brooklyn Museum, the last U.S. stop for the ©MURAKAMI exhibit before it moves overseas. It opens on Saturday, followed by a Japanese-themed First Saturday party. brooklynmuseum.org>>

The museum’s crowd-sourced exhibit Click! is now closed to photographers, but open to amateur jurors. You (yes, you!) get to judge the 398 photos submitted online between now and May 23rd. Your opinions will influence how they’re ultimately installed in the museum come June. brooklynmuseum.org>>

P.S.A.
Local musician/engineer/producer Scott Harding was in a terrible hit-and-run accident in February while riding a MetroLine livery cab (which was involved in another scandal recently). The car was uninsured, as was Harding, who suffered a spinal cord injury that paralyzed him from the chest down. His friends have set up a trust for him, scottyhardtrust.com, to help with the medical expenses.
