Tip Sheet: Apr. 15-Apr. 21

WEDNESDAY: You’re Golden
Do you have the tax day blues? Stop by Babeland in Park Slope today for a little, ahem, stimulus package. Free “gold digger” to the first 100 Brooklynites (who have already filed their taxes) through the door, and 10% off all day. 462 Bergen Street (between 5th Ave. and Flatbush Ave.)

If At First You Don’t Succeed…
Ever gotten a rejection from a magazine, publisher or TV studio? So have most people, even the successful ones! Hear writers and performers regale audiences with their rejected works at the aptly named Rejection Show tonight at Union Hall, hosted by Jon Friedman (author of Rejected).

THURSDAY: Pics of America
50 photographers, including Jock Sturges and Cass Bird, generously donated prints of their work to “America,” a show and auction to raise money for arts in the U.S. Opening party Thursday, 6-10pm, Fast Ashley’s Studios, 95 N. 10th Street, Williamsburg.

FRIDAY: Open Spring
Discover the soon-to-be it artist before everyone else at Pratt’s MFA Spring Open Studio night this Friday from 5-10pm. Enter on DeKalb and follow signs to “graduate studios.” See more deets here.

Clay Point
Clay Space 1205, a cooperative studio space for ceramic artists, is hosting an opening party for their new 11-artist group show Friday from 6-9pm. Ask about their spring classes and ceramic workshops while you’re there! 1205 Manhattan Avenue, Suite 2-4-1, Greenpoint.

New Music, New Treats
The First Annual Bake Sale will raise funds for various local music organizations. A ticket gets you in the door (plus two drink tickets) for a night of eclectic musical acts and a change to sample baked goods made by the musicians themselves. 7:30-11, First Presbyterian Church, 124 Henry Street, Brooklyn Heights.

SATURDAY: Earth Day Preview
Habana Outpost will re-open this weekend, kicking things off with an Earth Day bang. It’s a fitting start to the corn-grilling season for a place that has claimed the title of being Brooklyn’s first eco-eatery. Whether you show for the solar panels and green design or for the Cubans and frozen mojitos, be sure to bring the little ones — the Earth Day Expo includes arts and crafts, face paining and DJs. Noon-6pm, Sat. & Sun., 757 Fulton Street, Fort Greene.

Draw a Line
Artist Sarah Bostwick from the exhibit Brooklyn Redrawn hosts a line drawing workshop Saturday afternoon at the Brooklyn Historical Society, focusing on sketching your neighborhood. Free with admission or $6 adults/$4 kids. Reserve your spot since it’s limited to 20!

Bowling over for Theater
How does The Public Theater manage to mount some of the most exciting theater in town year after year? Find out from the horse’s mouth when its artistic director Oskar Eustis speaks at BRICstudio this Saturday after a performance from The TEAM, part of this year’s Under the Radar Festival at the Public. Bowling is among the show’s many touchstones, so it’s fitting that BRICstudio will morph into a temporary (Wii) alley, complete with disco dancing, pizza and beer. 647 Fulton Street at Rockwell Place.

Post-Moneyism
In this recession, art is probably low on your list of essentials below things like food, shelter and whiskey. Luckily for you, Recession Arts kicks off this Saturday night at Brooklyn Artists Gym, with works from emerging artists moderately priced for the middle class consumer.

The Droids You’re Looking For
Like a funkier Death From Above 1979, Brooklyn duo Sigmund Droid takes dirty dance punk and turns it way beyond 11. They rock the Cameo Art Gallery in Williamsburg this Saturday night. 93 N. 6th Street (between Berry and Wythe).

SUNDAY: Smoked Salmon, Soft Cheese, and Wine, Oh My
Sometimes too much knowledge can be a bad thing — especially when it comes to the increasingly long list of unsafe foods to eat during pregnancy. Fortunately, Nina Planck, who grew up drinking raw milk and didn’t stop during pregnancy, will give moms-to-be a break from all that no sushi nonsense. Her talk this Sunday at 4pm, timed to the release of her book Real Food for Mother and Baby at Get Fresh Market and Table, is one of many cool events the restaurant facilitates over small bites. Definitely RSVP: 718.360.8469.

Ink Stain
Need some literary inspiration? The third Sunday of each month Stain Bar hosts NYC Sunday Salon, a reading series featuring novelists and poets. This month’s local talent includes Crystal Belle, a Brooklyn born poet who teaches high school English in Bed-Stuy and South Williamsburg evictee Jami Attenberg, author of Instant Love and The Kept, as well as upcoming book The Melting Season. 7 pm, 766 Grand Street, Williamsburg.

Audio-Visual
The always intriguing Cinema 16 returns to the Bell House on Sunday with experimental musician Julianna Barwick providing the score for Kenneth Anger’s Pleasure Dome and Joel Schelmowitz’s 1734; later, Brooklyn filmmaker and sound artist Sarah Lipstate performs along with her own films.
