Tip Sheet: April 30 to May 4

Kid ‘n’ Play
Indulge your mini, 7- to 16-year-old speed demon this Sunday in Bay Ridge’s Owl Head Park, where they’ll learn how to build and embellish hot-wheels-sized cars from scratch, then race them down a 40-foot track. (A non-racing class called the “Show Boat” division exists for art cars.) The free event, from 11-3, is organized by Beam Camp, a summercamp for the fine and manual arts in New Hampshire. beamcamp.com

The same day, Small Magazine and Prospect Heights children’s shop Corduroy Kid co-host a trunk show for designer kids wear, followed by a group crafting session organized by NYC Explorers, which will be photographed for Small’s next issue. 3:30-5 pm, 388 Atlantic Ave, nycityexplorers.com

On Tuesday May 6, reflect on the crazy business of child rearing as writers Pamela Paul, Daniel Radosh, Gary Drevitch and Susan Gregory Thomans deliver lectures like “Baby Gear Your Mother Didn’t Have” and “How Princesses and Pokemon Conquered America.” It’s part of Stay Free’s Adult Education series at Union Hall. 8-9:15 pm, 702 Union St at 5th Ave, unionhallny.com

New Oasis
frankpark.jpg One place we forgot in our mega-roundup of outdoor drinking and dining spots last week is the brand-new Franklin Park in Crown Heights. Its terrific 1300-square-foot front patio is billed as a beer garden, with 12 American craft brews and imports on tap, but there’s a full, subway-tiled bar inside, too. franklinparkbrooklyn.com. Now On Gowanus Lounge
Robert Guskind’s superior Brooklyn blog Gowanus Lounge — BB’s personal fave — launched its new site on Monday (switch your bookmarks to gowanuslounge.com stat!) and we’re now contributing posts, like today’s bit on sharing mix tapes at Sound Fix, Cassette from my Ex, and Pacific Standard, here>>

Get landscaping — and decorating — ideas during the Fort Greene House Tour, this Sunday, noon to 5 rain or shine. fgahousetour.org
