Tip Sheet: Dec. 9-Dec. 15

WEDNESDAY: Birds Do It, Bees Do It
Tonight, join the ever-fabulous Isabella Rossellini at Coco66 for a screening of Green Porno, a book signing, a Q&A session, and truffle popcorn. The acclaimed actress wrote and acted in this series of short films for the Sundance Channel; each segment features Ms. Rossellini in elaborate costume explaining and reenacting the sexual proclivities of creatures from snails to starfish. The event, put together by WORD, celebrates the release of the shorts on DVD, as well as an accompanying book; $25 gets you two tickets to the event and a copy of the book, and of course the aforementioned gourmet popcorn. Date night?

We Make It Easy to Score
The BK Meatup Holiday Party has already been hailed by CNBC as the “Naughtiest Office Party of the Year,” but all you single dudes need to catch up to the ladies in the advance ticket sales (save $5!). They end at 4pm, and then it’s $15 at the door for an hour open bar of Scotch, $3 Busch all night, and some seriously funny business.

THURSDAY: Psychic Gift Network
It’s almost like this event was created just for us: local retailers (including SoHo’s quirky KIOSK, Greenpoint’s actually affordable men’s and women’s boutique Alter, and sassy necklace and oh-so-much-more purveyor In God We Trust) and aid for the undecided shopper. 303GRAND hosts a three-day clairvoyant-assisted shopping event that should take the guess work out of holiday gift giving. Watch the teaser at Subports (and check them out while you’re at it–they help anyone become a point of sale via text message, great for small businesses, crafters, and vintage dealers). Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from noon-8pm.

Shop It to Me
On Thursday, the Snowflake Celebration continues at Park Slope shops like Lion in the Sun, where our holiday coupon books will go on sale after the weekend (follow us on Twitter for updates on where to find them). Prospect Park West in Windsor Terrace has an afternoon of holiday fun with music, readings, sales, mulled cider, wine tastings, and other treats on Saturday.

Fork Me
Want to up your holiday entertaining game without upping the your grocery bill? Tamara Reynolds and Zora O’Neill, authors of Forking Fantastic! Put the Party back in Dinner Party will be at the Brooklyn Kitchen Labs sharing their party tips and tricks along with plenty of wine and snacks. They will also demonstrate Leg of Lamb with Pomegranate Molasses, one of their favorite recipes from the book. The eating, drinking and entertaining kicks off at 6:30; tickets.

Nutty Christmas
The animated antics of the Peanuts gang come to life thanks to Pig Brooch Theatre Company’s live rendition of the holiday classic A Charlie Brown Christmas, which opens its second season at the Brooklyn Lyceum tonight. The troop, which faithfully follows the original script, is accompanied by a live jazz trio performing all the music from the movie’s score. The play runs through December 20; portions of the ticket proceeds go to the Children’s Aid Society.

Charitable Fun
The Bell House gives a boost to good causes this week as it hosts two fundraisers in a row. Thursday’s event, Brooklyn Sings for Health Care Reform, boasts an impressive lineup of borough-based singer/songwriters, indie, and folk-influenced bands; proceeds from the concert go to Campaign for a National Health Plan, an advocacy group promoting single-payer health care. Friday night things get a little more raucous with Desk Set’s Biblioball Dance Party, which features live music, DJs, and foot juggling and trapeze artists, all in the name of the New York non-profit Literacy for Incarcerated Teens.

FRIDAY: Get Lit
Celebrate the first night of the Festival of Lights with a Battle of the Holiday Brews at Fourth Avenue Pub. In one corner, representing Chanukah, we have Shmaltz Brewing Company’s Jewbelation Bar Mitzvah 13th Anniversary Ale; in the other, fighting for Christmas, we have Delirium’s Noel. If you’re still standing after a few rounds, it’ll be a holiday miracle! The smackdown starts at 3pm.

SATURDAY: Suuuuunny Day
Embrace your inner child Saturday and Sunday at BAM’s Sesame Street: A Celebration. Classic Sesame Street films will be screening all weekend. Other programs include thematic collections of clips from forty years of Sesame Street, like some of the most legendary musical performances and milestone moments in the show. Big kids interested in some behind-the-scenes footage can check out a compilation on Jim Henson and other early collaborators or a documentary on the impact of Sesame Street, followed by a Q&A with the directors; for the tiniest of fans, the Brooklyn Public Library will be at BAM on Saturday to sign tykes up for their first library cards bearing Elmo’s furry little face.

Festival of Lights, Tournament of Dreidels
Take your dreidel game to the big leagues at tonight’s Major League Dreidel tournament at the Knitting Factory. The rules are a bit different than the ones you may have used at your bubbe’s house: here, the challenge is to keep your dreidel spinning for the longest time in the league’s officially sanctioned playing space, the perfectly-named Spinagogue. The non-denominational festivities begin with Gods of Fire performing their oh-my-God-why-has-no-one-thought-of-this-before record Hanukkah Gone Metal; Category Sixx, the self-proclaimed “World’s Greatest Air Band,” close out the night with a post-tournament set. Come prepared with a clever name and an appetite for gelt, though be forewarned: Debbie Does Dreidel and Spinderella are already taken.

SUNDAY: Light Up McCarren Park
Finding Christmas lights a bit unoriginal this time of year? Tonight, the North Brooklyn Public Art Coalition’s newest project gets switched on in McCarren Park. Living Objects, an installation by the lights-and-kinetics artist Jason Krugman, features three humanoid sculptures woven through with white lights. At 6pm, the lights in the park will be turned off, letting the glow of these surreal sculptures take center stage for a moment. A reception will follow the lighting at Light-Up Brooklyn, one of the project’s main sponsors.

The Fairest of Them All
Company XIV, known for its risque shows, is entertaining kids and adults in its opulent production of “Snow White” the 303 Bond St. theater. The Disney movie is a big yawn compared to this blend of opera, dance Yiddish folk songs and puppetry. Through Jan. 17.

Give Gadgets
Nonprofit Smallbean, which donates used electronics to communities in the devcloping world to help advance technology worldwide, is throwing a launch party at Cameo this Sunday with an evening of musical acts. Donate your old gadgets and get reduced admission. From 7-midnight, 93 North 6th Street.

Movin’ On
Rid yourself of baggage before the new year. Text the Death Bear for an appointment to pick up reminders of your ex: the anniversary mixtape, beat up t-shirt, photos (ok, or memory card with digital photos), and other momentos of the relationship. A 7-foot-tall black bear will make stops anywhere in Brooklyn to help you move on.

MONDAY: Edible Trivia
Edible Brooklyn hosts a night of BK-centric food trivia at Sheep Station in Park Slope. Get your ticket ($15 includes one beer) for your chance to win prizes including an Intelligentsia coffee class, Long Island wine, and cookbooks!
