Tip Sheet: June 18-June 24

Good thing Saturday’s the longest day of the year. With all that time you can catch the Mermaid Parade in Coney at 2, have a drink at the new Beer Island (on Stillwell between Surf Ave and the Boardwalk), then hear live music at the Newkirk Ave. eco-themed Block Party, courtesy of Make Music New York, which will turn 93 streets, parks and rooftops around Brooklyn into outdoor venues. Offshore, Governors Island will become a 13-stage “Punk Island,” beginning at 11 am. Bands will even play on the ferry from the Battery Maritime Building, site of David Byrne’s “Playing the Building” installation.

Bar Parties
Park Sloper Julie Reiner’s long-awaited Clover Club opens tonight in Cobble Hill. We got a sneek peak last night and the heavy-wood vintage bar, pressed tin ceilings and leather banquettes definitely give it a classic cocktail vibe. Add to that an armada of cute bartenders in rolled shirt sleeves, vests and ties. Oh and the drinks? They’re carefully constructed with top-shelf liquors, fresh fruit and syrups infused with herbs and spices. In a word: divine. Hours are M-Th, 5 pm-2 am; Fri 5-4 am; Sat 2:30-4 am; Sun 2:30-midnight. 210 Smith St. near Baltic, 718-855-7939

In Prospect Heights, Barrette hosts two unusual fetes: the Gemini Party tonight at 9, where Gems get a free drink and astrologist Saturnalia will give free readings and grant the best set of twins — real, dressed up, or in spirit only — dinner for four at Olea. On Saturday after the Mermaid Parade, the bar morphs into the tiki-themed Club Paradisio, with an extended happy hour and grass-skirted go-go girls on their tiny stage. 601 Vanderbilt Ave. at Bergen, 718-230-5170

copcop.jpgThe Kitchen’s Old Timers
At the Brooklyn Flea this Sunday, the Brooklyn Kitchen will be hawking vintage pans, pots, cutlery and tableware like designer Michael Lax’s porcelain enamel cast-iron Copcoware (pictured), space-age glasses from the Federal Glass Co., and Griswold skillets and pans from the 1930s and 40s.

Make Art and Rent
Tonight from 6-8 the Brooklyn Arts Council presents “Pitching Your Art to Galleries and Finding Gallery Representation,” a seminar where artists can talk with private gallery owners about finally removing that “struggling” modifier. brooklynartscouncil.org

Come for the duct tape, stay for the artwork. At Crest Hardware’s art show, its second since 1999, expect painting, sculpture (like this piece by Miggy Buck) and photography with a rough-hewn, industrial feel mixed in with the store’s merchandise. Until July 11th. site>>
